Questions and answers

Parents, students, teachers and applicants ask the Ministry the same things. The answers are here.

Fees and levies

Only the fees and levies on the schedule the Ministry approves for each session. The current schedule is on the approved fees page and may be downloaded as a signed circular. Nothing outside it - and nothing above the amount shown - may be demanded from a student or parent, and no PTA contribution may be made a condition of attending or of sitting an examination.

If you have been asked for anything else, report it. You may do so anonymously and you will be given a reference to follow it up.

Withholding a result over an unapproved payment is not permitted. Report it to the Ministry with the name of the school and what you were told.

If your child is sitting an examination imminently, telephone your field office directly as well as filing the report, so the matter can be dealt with before the paper.

No. A receipt, a message or a note from the school helps, but the Ministry investigates on the report alone. Do not delay a report because you cannot prove the payment.

If you file anonymously, your name, telephone number and email are not recorded at all. Nothing in the report identifies you.

If you give your details, they are held by the Ministry and used only to contact you about the report. They are not passed to the school. Retaliation against a student whose parent has reported a levy is itself a disciplinary matter and should be reported immediately.

Model schools admission

By the entrance examination. Registration is done online on the model schools admissions portal while the window is open, usually for pupils in Primary 6. The examination timetable and the admission list are published on the same portal.

Any registration fee is stated on the admissions portal itself, and is paid only through that portal. Nobody is authorised to collect a registration fee on the Ministry's behalf, and no agent can secure a place.

Private schools

A proprietor applies through the private schools portal, the Inspectorate inspects the premises, staffing and records against the published guidelines, and approval is granted or withheld. Approval is renewed annually through the same portal. A school that does not renew is removed from the approved list.

The approved list is published on the private schools portal and is searchable by name and local government area. An approved school holds a certificate of approval for the current year, which it must display. If a school cannot show one, ask your field office.

Quality assurance

The Inspectorate carries out continuous visits throughout each term, assessed against published standards covering teaching, attendance, records and compliance with the approved schedule of fees. Visits are unannounced by design, and cover approved private schools as well as public schools.

Results and portals

Results for public secondary schools are published on the Ministry's e-MIS platform. You will need the access card issued by the school. Sign in, choose the session and term, and the result can be viewed and printed.

If a result is missing, the school should raise it through the teachers portal first, as most gaps are a matter of scores not yet uploaded.

Ask the school. The school can confirm your identity and reissue the access details from the teachers portal. The Ministry does not issue access cards directly to students or parents.

Use the schools page to find the school. Its record shows the local government area and the field office for that LGA, with the officer's name, address and telephone number. All 25 field offices are also listed on the field offices page, grouped by senatorial district.

The Ministry maintains the register. The school or its field office should write in with the correction and it will be updated. Members of the public cannot edit a school record directly.

School websites

Every public school, and every approved private school, may have a website on the Ministry's school network, at its own address under deltastatemobse.net. The Ministry creates the site, chooses a design with the school and issues sign-in details to the school management.

The school then keeps its own logo, colours, news, newsletters and photographs up to date. New pages and links are requested from the Ministry, which approves them, and results are always checked through the Ministry's e-MIS platform rather than on the school site.

Ask your field office, or write to the Ministry through the contact page, to request a website.

Teachers and recruitment

Recruitment is by public advertisement. When a cycle opens, the notice appears on this site, in the news list, and through the usual state channels, and applications are made on the jobs portal. There is no standing application list.

No. The Ministry never charges a fee to apply and has no agents acting on its behalf. Any person or website asking you to pay to apply, or offering to secure a post, is not acting for the Ministry. Report it.

Transfer requests go through the field office of origin before they reach headquarters. A request presented directly at headquarters will be returned. Your field office will tell you what to submit; the application form is on the downloads page.
